STRESS MANAGEMENT MONTH: Building long-term relationships that strengthen your workplace from the inside out

In both public and private sectors, organisations are seeking external partners to support the growing demand for effective, evidence-based wellbeing programmes. But with a broad and rapidly evolving marketplace, how can Occupational Health & Safety professionals choose the right provider?

The key lies in aligning provider capabilities with organisational goals – balancing clinical credibility, digital innovation, and cultural fit to deliver sustainable impact. Here’s what OH&S leaders attending the Occupational Safety & Health Forum should consider when evaluating stress management partners:-

First and foremost, clinical expertise must be non-negotiable. Whether offering counselling, resilience training, or employee assistance programmes (EAPs), providers should employ or partner with licensed professionals trained in mental health support. Programmes rooted in psychological best practice—such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or trauma-informed care—are essential for addressing both acute and chronic stress.

Scalability is another vital consideration. With hybrid and dispersed workforces now the norm, solutions must reach employees across sites, job functions, and work environments. A strong partner should offer both in-person and digital options, with the capacity to scale services quickly during periods of heightened stress—such as during organisational change, peak workloads, or public health emergencies.

Digital capabilities have become increasingly important. Look for providers that offer online wellbeing platforms, mobile apps, virtual coaching, and data dashboards. These tools provide employees with 24/7 access to support, while enabling employers to track engagement, identify emerging risks, and tailor interventions based on data insights. Integration with existing HR systems or occupational health software is also a plus.

Cultural fit is critical for uptake and long-term success. The most effective wellbeing programmes are those that reflect your organisation’s tone, values, and communication style. Providers should demonstrate an understanding of your workforce demographics and be willing to tailor content and delivery accordingly. Cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and language localisation are also key—particularly in diverse or multinational organisations.

Finally, OH&S leaders must demand evidence-based outcomes. The right partner will be transparent about success metrics and willing to share anonymised data on engagement, satisfaction, and wellbeing improvements. They should support regular reviews, provide impact reports, and collaborate on continuous improvement.

In 2025, selecting a stress/wellbeing management partner is about building a long-term relationship that strengthens your workplace from the inside out. With the right provider, OH&S teams can support employee wellbeing proactively, reduce risk, and contribute to a healthier, more resilient organisation.
